DON’T BE MOTIVATED – BE DISCIPLINED!

There will be times in your training or racing when motivation, positive self-talk, and even incentives cannot help you.

When training or your race becomes hard, and nothing you throw at this situation you find yourself in seems to make a difference; what do you do?
When this happens, it’s time to be disciplined, as nothing else is going to help you get to where you want to go.

Discipline is doing what is needed to achieve your goals, regardless if it’s hard, easy, or you feel like doing it.

It’s been just over two months since I had my hamstring tendon reattached, and it’s now time for me to be disciplined with my actions every single day.

Things have progressed as planned so far. I’m now able to walk around without crutches, although I’m still struggling a little with steep hills. I have taken a few long drives, still a little uncomfortable. And i’ve even gone out for lunch and dinner with friends, accompanied by my trusty donut cushion to reduce the pressure on my surgical site.

Things look on the up!

Recently I have started the next phase of my rehab program, and it will shape the answer i’ve been waiting patiently to learn; did the surgery work?

I cannot rush this process, nor can I do more to increase my chances of success. Being disciplined in my daily approach to my rehab is vital.
Do to much, and I could prolong my recovery.
Do to little and I could not completely recover.

Not turn up everyday to do my my program as prescribed, whether I feel like it or not – isn’t going to help me either.

I’m trusting in the process my team has created for me, and staying disciplined in my daily approach to both rehab, and life.

Sure, not everyday I feel like doing the same exercises, with only a slight increase in resistance to satisfy my need for progression.

However, I know that completing these sessions with no more or no less repos, sets, or exercises prescribed is going to give me the best chance of making a full recovery from this injury that started over 18 months ago…

So, for the next 4-6 weeks I’ll be getting up every morning and completing my rehab program at home, before I head to the pool on three of these mornings to continue my rehab in the water, and then in the gym.

I’ll complete everything my team have prescribed, no more, no less, and stay disciplined with my actions – whether I feel like it or not!
